Technical Breakouts/Shakeouts -- Smelling the News etc etc

Although Index has moved back to 17.5k the broader market is still lagging by a big margin. With the start of new financial year there could be fresh allocations !! from funds. So keep a watch on Midcap moves next month.

GE shipping can give a sharp move above 295.

IFCI /Punj Lloyd good short term pullback candidates.

SUGAR STOCKS seem very oversold. Small caps like Oudh, dwarikesh and Renuka look interesting for bottom fishers looking for 10-15%

Sensex headed for new 52 wk high ? Just like Dow Jones,FTSE and others !

Before i start the post ------------Where are the 4400/4000 Nifty and 14k Sensex Analysts HIDING :)

Many of the indices around the globe have notched on to new 52 wk highs. Dow Jones /FTSE have hit new highs. Dax ,CAC Bovespa and many other indices are close to previous highs.

Sensex can also see a move beyond the previous high and may target 18000-18200 levels where the channel resistance comes in. Only sustained closing above 18200 would mean a major breakout from the channel targetting 19k also. But for now investors should look to wait for 18k levels to start booking profits.

PROFITs yes for those who have been following us know that we were of the few people who were bullish :) at 16k or lower. Check archives for the month of February !!! ---

WARNING : Index may go up in coming days but Traders/Investors advised to take care with leverage !! Be disciplined and stick to quality stocks.

Sun Pharma Advanced set for a breakout ??

SUN PHARMA ADVANCED RESEARCH !!

Although fundamentally on books it may seem a 1000 p/e stock but if out of the few formulations becomes a hit the stock can see huge payments !... Thats the high risk and high reward part of it and its one of the few pure RND plays available.

Personally was a favorite almost 6 mths back but exitted out of patience at nominal gains.

Technically the stock is trying to give a breakout and the first signal has come. Buy around 93-95 stop of 89 tgt 105-110. Sustained closing above 105 could give a major move to the stock.

Index near previous Highs --- Broader market still lagging !

Sensex Technical View :

The view remains

Sustaining above the 61% retracement level for last few days indicates good strength. Ideally the index should even try the upper end of the channel which could be closer to 18k but first some pause shud come around the previous top of 17700.

As of now stock specific moves would be more dominant.

BROADER MARKET :

If one sees BSE small cap or BSE midcap index they are both lagging in the current pullback in Sensex. So although the index may seem to be comfortable or overbought for some people the broader market still needs to catch up.

Such a period makes trading diffcult with many whipsaws or false moves. Difficult to detect a false move but one can now continue to reduce volumes for short term trades. Investors need not worry.

Keep strict stoplosses or avoid trading if you cannot take stoploss hits as the ratio of misses increases in such periods.

Stocks to watchout for :

Bharti Airtel can touch 315-325 on crossing 305 mark.

Shipping stocks should be in limelight with the recent move in Baltic Dry Index..... GE shipping a good bet on declines.

Prakash Inds remains a good bet on declines to 200-210 provided one is ready to add more if dips more.

Investors looking for defensive bets to conserve gains should look into Aventis Pharma , Apollo Hospitals with 1 yr view.

Just a quick technical view on few stocks

FEW DAYS back had mentioned about Agro space getting attention and Bayer Crop/Excel crop lookin good.

The chart above shows an excellent rounding pattern. Earlier had covered Sabero,Insecticides india at lower levels which have surprised heavily in this sector.

Investors with more then 6 mths to 1 yr view point can buy on current levels and dips but would need more patience.

As i had mentioned in the chart on Friday that Reliance could decide the next move for the market. It seems reliance has decided the next move for the market which should be higher.

Reliance can see 1100-1150. Buy on dips to 1045.

Then a little detailed report was posted a few days back SMALL CAP COVERAGE KOVAI MEDICAL CENTER AND HOSPITAL

The stock has zoomed from 105 to 125. Have advised booking half the holdings at 120 +. Continue to hold the rest with a target price of 140/170 in the long run being a good possibility.

How much can i make in trading with 50k-1lakh portfolio ----- Nothing only Experience

Few weeks back has started a series of posts on Market Manipulations on stocks like Ushdev International,Jaybharat Textiles and Real Estate which was later caught by SEBI. Now even RBI has put up an inquiry on Tayals the promoters of Jaybharat and Bank of Rajasthan.

Starting today would be a new series of Posts on Investors Expectations/Myths etc etc.

There are many times where many friends/readers and acquaintances ask me the question.

How much returns can i make out of a 50k or a 1 lakh portfolio ???

--- > Although many people in this range would be called a very small investor but they have the highest set of expectations.

-- > One of the questions which i generally ask is ---- How much do you expect to make out of it ?

The majority of the answer is --- Well i should make at least 5k-20k out of it every month. Some are even looking out for 100% returns in the next 3 months itself.

If thats not enough the same client lands up reading the net and subscribing to various ADVISORY SERVICES which promise 50-100% returns a month, 400-800 points in Nifty future, 50-200% in Nifty Options and the minimum capital requirement being only 50k to lure the innocent dreamers .... All these sites stay in the business till the going is good and CROWD of Fools continue to come in wtih no Research or Discipline.

I hope nobody from the readers feels the same or if you have been through something like these plz post in the comments or mail it to me noorrock2002@gmail.com !!! If yes then i would like to clear this ROSY PICTURE !!

Lets have some points.

1) Many sites as well as traders have been dreaming of 20-100% returns a month.Be it with options or Nifty futures or FNO or Penny Stocks. Is it possible maybe YES but that would need one to be a very very DISCIPLINED TRADER and professional in approach. And somebody who could generate 100% a month would never be advising ( Personal loan is available at 2 % a month,brokers leverage at 2 % a month ) ....

( I dont :) we are happy with 6-15% a month with a 65-75% accuracy !!! )

2) As i said with 50k people wish to make 5-20k minimum which is a minimum of 10-40% a month !!.Taking an average of the expectation of 20% or even 10% your money should be 3 to 6 times in a year.

3) Wow !!! if thats possible then with 10 lakhs if you could make 3 times in a year with so much of ease then WHY THE HELL are you holding a JOB. Take a 10 lakhs rupee loan and get a 20-30 lakh per annum job or close all your businesses

4) When i say this people say i am ready to lose 50k but i cant risk 10 lakhs ..... So if one wants to speculate any amount is less but yes if you are looking at the future its better to learn the ropes with small amounts :)

5) Stock Market Investment/Trading is one of the most serious businesses which requires lots and lots of discipline and patience !! Also this is the only place where you can generate multifold returns with the least amount of mental and physical strain provided you work smartly for it:) !

6) This is the only business which requires NO experience,No Formal Education, No Fixed Hours , No compulsions and in cases Negligible Capital ( Leverage/Futures ). Thats the reason majority of the people fail as nobody takes it as a serious business and educates themselves. This is the only business where you keep learning till you are in it.

7) A very important line to all Speculators trading without any Knowledge ---- If you could make hell lot of money CONSISTENTLY ( flukes do last long in a bull market ) by just Calling up your Broker or punching in a few keys on your keyboard – You are wrong. !!!

8 ) So the bottomline is if you want to stay in this BUSINESS of Businesses then make an effort to Learn !! Research and develop a discipline,patience and Conviction else market gives a lot of wounds alongwith a exceptional experience :)

There are no Short Cuts to making money in the Market :) ------

In our short term calls we look towards achieving a 6-15% gains in a month without any leverage or futures trading !!! Minimum Portfolio size is advised is 2-2.5 lakhs.Higher the better so your cost to advisory services is minimal.

Sluggish moves to remain for few days. Sensex 16600-17400 could be the range and the major moves would be seen in the broader segment.

Stocks to watchout for :

Sun TV can give a sharp move above 425.Stoploss 410 on trigger.

Investors looking towards the Agro space can also have a look on Excel Crop which could be a good bet for the next 3-6 mths. Buy on declines.

Bombay Rayon is on verge of a technical breakout provided it crosses 225 with volumes.

Small cap Coverage - Kovai Medical Center and Hospital

Yet again i am back with a stock in the healthcare segment -----

After spotting Education and Power sector as stories in 2007 i believe the next one is going to be healthcare/research and so on. But the stocks may not seem exciting on fundamental p/e and other benchmarks but markets should ideally give them a high p/e and stocks may over run.

Our earlier favorite Fortis Health still remains a strong pick and one should hold on 70 to 170 and still strong. Next is Apollo Hospitals which should over perform in 2010-2011.

The next option in the sector comes is

Kovai Medical Center and Hospital.

The stock is quoting around 105 at almost a p/e of 10 which does not make it expensive on a normal consideration.

The 800 bed hospital as well and another 150 beds in adjoining areas makes it a good bet at 110 crores market cap.

As per market valuations the valuations on the hospital and land could be anywhere between 300-400 crores.

Technically the stock has corrected from a highs of 140 to 105 levels and made a low of sub 90. Any dips in the range of 90-105 is a good buying area with a minimum target price of 125-140 in short to medium term.

An exposure is warranted if someone is looking with a perspective of 6 mths to 2 years. The stock can be a 50-100% mover in the long run.Also to diversify holdings in the healthcare segment a small allocation can be done.

The stock is illiquid so do take care.

DISCLOSURE : Recommended to clients at 100-90 levels in all our plans. Have already booked partial profits at 108 + to reduce acquisition cost.

Previous Stocks :

Accentia Technologies was recommended at 110-120 levels has come up to 280 !! The long term outlook is positive but profit booking to an extent of 75% be done.

Surya Pharma recommended around 135-140 levels is around 165-170.Maintain the strong long term view. Fresh upmove may start on closing above 175-180 levels where one can even add for short term.

PTL Enterprises recommended at 18-19 the valuation play remains but partial booking can be done if rises to 25. Only for patient investors and dont expect quick fire returns.

Index should pause now and Side Counters to be in focus ----

Small update tonight :

Sensex should take a pause and side counters would dominate.

Stock View :

Amtek Auto hit the stoploss at 175 but did not give chance of an exit as some bulk deal which is change of hands took place at 170. Keep a closing stoploss of 167. Reduce positions to 180-185. Stock could give a sharp move on close above 190.

Grasim gave a good move in the day. DIC still looks good.

MNC pharma companies are getting into the limelight and one can expert sharp moves in Aventis Pharma, Glaxo and Pfizer in coming days. Even Auro bindo Pharma/Sun Pharma looks good.

Where are the 4000-4400 Nifty Analysts Hiding ??!!!

This is a question which nobody likes to ask ---- Where are the 4000-4400 Nifty Analysts Hiding ?? !!!

The human mind and a trader is always inclined towards the bullish side. So analysts generally like to give major down move targets !!! Why is it SO ---- Psychology of a Human Mind.

Say if somebody shouts the House is on Fire and if it is he will be hailed as a saviour and a Hero. Suppose there is no fire people would just laugh it of as a scared fellow.

Same thing happens in Market. Mr XYZ calls for 25k at 20k is not cursed for his opinion but if he shouts 12k 6k and 0k whenever he will get right markets will hail him as a GURU :) ............

So getting back to the point

Sensex Technical View :

Although my view was clear ever since the last 2-3 weeks about 16700-17000 being seen on upside and 15500 holding up irrespective of Market Consensus has finally been proved RIGHT. Check all our previous posts

Look into some market buzz and view which i posted on February 9th !!! --

Ajanta Pharma may see another move above 150 taking it to 180.

Thinksoft might be soon dumped to the retailers .... A major avoid !!

Shorts would be trapped at 4500-4700 and index would zoom to 5050 by March 2nd week as per punters !

Here we are at 17k Sensex.

Technically the markets should face resistance at 61% retracement around 17000 and 5075 Nifty. If market is able to cruise above 17200 and 5120 it could be a pleasant surprise as markets could then look towards the Higher end of the Channel also. We will look into the scenario in the weekend when i would be posting a very detailed presentation Sensex Technical Analysis and View for next few months.

About the channel posted above---- I was so obsessed about the technical level of 15500 that i just did not look into the classic parallel channel which came exactly around 15650. Markets have taken support exactly at that level which is a very positive signal. Ideally the Market shapes towards a range of 16000-18000 in this case and every dip to 16500 or lower becomes a buy again.

But as part of discipline ---------- BOOK PROFITS / REDUCE EXPOSURE /INCREASE CASH ---------------------

WHY - Because we had suggested to average or keep buying on declines !!! Its disciplined trading which makes more money in the market.

Its been 3 1/2 years since i have been blogging consistently day after day. There are 1300 + posts , 700 images.

The blog has a 7,00,000 + page hits in last 3 years.

There have been many many followers of the blog who have been reading for almost 3 years and a fresh number of people keep coming in.

Although readers might be recommending it to their colleagues, friends but yet again i would still urge people to share the blog link so more people read the valuable information and much much more.

Share it only if you find it valuable.

Some suggestions ( i might be asking for more )

Sensex does 16700 + …. Time to reduce at 17k for people who averaged !!! …

The personal view remains that index would not close below the 15300-15600 mark. So its simple if you have done right stock-picking and are convinced go ahead average on declines slowly. Start going leveraged closer to 15300-15600 range. ( Last time we did at 15300/16600 and it was fruitful) “

In my last post Sunday Thoughts ---- What to do Now !! had mentioned the above statement. This was couple of sessions before the budget.

So for those who have averaged What to do Now ?

Book the averaged quantity at levels corresponding 16800-17000 Sensex levels or on stock specific gains. This does not mean i am bearish but its part of the discipline !!! . This strategy would generate some cash which can be used for fresh trades or also as a back up again to buy on dips.

Good discipline makes money in the market !!!

Sensex Technical View :

As i have been consistently mentioning that Sensex should retrace back 50/61.8 % of the last move which comes roughly at 16700/17000 levels. Index should find resistance in higher band closer to 17k but one would expect stock specific and midcap moves to dominate from here.

Stocks to watchout for :

Fortis Healthcare one of our favorites and long term picks from 70s continues to march towards 170 …. Continue to hold on for long term growth.

Apollo Hospitals maintain our long term view and add more if closes above 720 levels.

BHEL has given a breakout. Buy on dips to 2415 stop of 2390 tgt 2470/2500 + in 1 week.

Century Textiles buy above 505.

Day call Buy HDFC Ltd arnd 2540-2550 stop 2525 tgt 2610.

KSB Pumps,Jain Irrigation have given fresh breakouts but illiquid stocks so small exposure for trading can be taken.

The focus would now soon shift to Midcaps and Small caps. So be on the lookout for some sharp moves in next 2-4 weeks.

Mr Pranab Mukherjee the finance minister did come out with a budget which i am definitely not the best guy to comment on. But all I see is good tax savings for the salaried and good service tax savings for professionals like us :)

Above all the markets welcomed the budget with a good up move.

Certain stocks to watchout for :

Amtek Auto :

The stock gave a nice breakout yesterday. Buy on current levels and on dips with a stoploss of 175 and a target price 204/225 with a medium term view.

Disclosure : Already recommended at 185/175 to clients.

Apollo Hospitals :

Already recommended before at 600-650 levels with a long term view.

A fresh triangle formation which can give a breakout above 720. Add if breaks out.
Sensex Technical View :

In the last few days i have consistently mentioned that index would not break below 15500-15800 in worst case.

On the upside 16700-17000 are target zone where one should look to book profits and reduce exposure at that zone.

Many people would have averaged on declines should look to reduce the same quantity at 17k levels as part of discipline.

What to do Now !!

The last 2 months have been very weird with markets where i have seen sentiments change drastically on either side.

1) ---- > Around December /January the only question was Should i buy X or Should i buy Y !!!! Whats a good long term buy at current levels.

2) ---- > Suddenly a crack to 16k or lower in late January the question was Should I exit ALL !!! Are we going to see 12k again ??

Have the fundamentals changed or its just the psychology !!!

My thoughts:

1) ---- > Around December/January although we continued to trade but the view was to increase cash and take some money of the table.

2) ---- > Once the markets started cracking towards 16k the view has been clear. Its a nice healthy correction and in a lighter vein Hangover of a BULL Party !!

So now lets get into the present !!! What to do Now !!!

Leveraged traders would have been hurt badly in this correction. But high risk traders always see extreme ends on their portfolio positions. Only way to get back would be going leveraged again after 2 weeks once the budget hungama is over. But remember next time around when the portfolio has turned good STOP LEVERAGE !!

For the smart trader/investor who has maintained our philosophy of not being leveraged the portfolios might be down 20% from the peak but still be way way better if you would have taken earlier trades.

Certain stocks are down 20-30% from the buying price ( we have had a few - Vimta,Eveready,DCB ) !! But look into the whole portfolio rather then a couple of stocks to have a better idea.

Should I average :

The market can turn very sluggish and bearish only on closing below the 15300-15500 mark. If that happens personal view would be - EXIT ALL !!!

People will tell me why EXIT ALL at sub 15.3k and not Now.

The answer is simple the reason for me being INVESTED was that 15300 holds and we could see 17-18k over next few months. Now if 15.3k is not there i dunno where the market would go. When u dont know one should just GO :)

Above all EXIT on the portfolio doesnot stop me from buying back again maybe at a higher level ( 16.5k ) or at lower level ( 14k ). But again it keeps me comfortable and disciplined !!!

This is just a quick 10-15 minute post -- As when i write my Sunday Thoughts i dont stop so that there is no bias :) but just clean technical thoughts !!!

No Sensex or stock specific updates as nothing much is happening and would wait for the budget to go.

Market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has uncovered a price rigging network and restrained 16 individuals from trading till further direction.

SEBI said the accused, which include Hemlata Hankare, Rashmi Gandhi, Alpesh Shah, Hasmukh Jain and Kamlesh Jain, indulged in synchronised trades. Majority of the trading was done by firms India Capital Markets and Emkay Global, the regulator added.

Synchronised trading was carried out in the following scrips: Asian Star, KSL, Mavens Biotech, Panoramic Universal, Allcargo, Rasi Electrodes, Sat Ind, Ushdev Int, Jaybharat Textiles, Lotus Eyes Care, MVL Industries,Anil Products and KBS Capital.

Around 2 weeks back had posted a detailed article on how circular trading or synchronised trading takes place in some stocks. Its co-incidence that after couple of weeks SEBI suddenly wakes up and busts a stock manipulation network.

SENSEX TECHNICAL VIEW :

There are too many opinions on the market varying from 12k to 18k which seems too huge a range !!! Well thats the problem with opinions because nobody likes to say i dont know !! :)

Well for now the current moves over the last few days have given no clean signals of a change of trend or continuation of the uptrend.

Simpler analysis is 15300-156000 should hold if that breaks then only can we look deeper and might actually look to exit if that happens. ( Personal opinion remains that 15500 would hold )

On the upside a move above 17k is positive. 16500-16700 remains the retracement band.

Stock Specific also we are not seeing any positive moves but a slow decline coz of indecision in the market.

Sometimes its better to just watchout then to trade. I would wait for the next week for clarity as budget and other external things to pass.

View remains the same so will paste yest views.

There might be varying views on the current trend of the market. One section is looking at 12k-13k and other at 18k.

Technically there is nothing confirmatory to change the trend to down in the medium term. Only closings below 15500 would negate the higher top higher bottom pattern.

In the short term even if markets have to go down they should retrace at least 50% of the downmove. So 16500/16700/17000 could be seen in days to come.

Traders and Investors who bought into the dips currently should look to trim longs around those levels as some bit of resistance could come there.

Also with the upcoming event its better to be not leveraged although i dont expect major negative surprises.

A move above 17k would confirm the resumption of strong uptrend.So we need to see the reactions around 16700 zone.

Few days back had mentioned some market buzz which is a mix of my speculative forecasting and market rumours.

Thinksoft might be soon dumped to the retailers .... A major avoid !!

Shorts would be trapped at 4500-4700 and index would zoom to 5050 by March 2nd week as per punters !

Just a nice article i got in a mail..... Boring markets so nothing much to update till we dont see 15600-16200 range being taken of.

Who sells the largest number of cameras in India ?

Your guess is likely to be Sony, Canon or Nikon. Answer is none of the above. The winner is Nokia whose main line of business in India is not cameras but cell phones

Reason being cameras bundled with cell phones are outselling stand alone cameras. Now, what prevents the cell phone from replacing the camera outright? Nothing at all. One can only hope the Sony’s and Canons are taking note.

Try this. Who is the biggest in music business in India ? You think it is HMV Sa-Re-Ga-Ma? Sorry. The answer is Airtel. By selling caller tunes (that play for 30 seconds) Airtel makes more than what music companies make by selling music albums (that run for hours).

Incidentally Airtel is not in music business. It is the mobile service provider with the largest subscriber base in India . That sort of competitor is difficult to detect, even more difficult to beat (by the time you have identified him he has already gone past you). But if you imagine that Nokia and Bharti (Airtel's parent) are breathing easy you can't be farther from truth.

Nokia confessed that they all but missed the smart phone bus. They admit that Apple's I phone and Google's Android can make life difficult in future. But you never thought Google was a mobile company, did you? If these illustrations mean anything, there is a bigger game unfolding. It is not so much about mobile or music or camera or emails?

The "Mahabharata" (the great Indian epic battle) is about "what is tomorrow's personal digital device"? Will it be a souped up mobile or a palmtop with a telephone? All these are little wars that add up to that big battle. Hiding behind all these wars is a gem of a question – "who is my competitor?"

Once in a while, to intrigue my students I toss a question at them. It says "What Apple did to Sony, Sony did to Kodak, explain?" The smart ones get the answer almost immediately. Sony defined its market as audio (music from the walkman). They never expected an IT company like Apple to encroach into their audio domain. Come to think of it, is it really surprising? Apple as a computer maker has both audio and video capabilities. So what made Sony think he won't compete on pure audio? "Elementary Watson". So also Kodak defined its business as film cameras, Sony defines its businesses as "digital."

In digital camera the two markets perfectly meshed. Kodak was torn between going digital and sacrificing money on camera film or staying with films and getting left behind in digital technology. Left undecided it lost in both. It had to. It did not ask the question "who is my competitor for tomorrow?" The same was true for IBM whose mainframe revenue prevented it from seeing the PC. The same was true of Bill Gates who declared "internet is a fad!" and then turned around to bundle the browser with windows to bury Netscape. The point is not who is today's competitor. Today's competitor is obvious. Tomorrow's is not.

In 2008, who was the toughest competitor to British Airways in India ? Singapore airlines? Better still, Indian airlines? Maybe, but there are better answers. There are competitors that can hurt all these airlines and others not mentioned. The answer is videoconferencing and tele presence services of HP and Cisco. Travel dropped due to recession. Senior IT executives in India and abroad were compelled by their head quarters to use videoconferencing to shrink travel budget. So much so, that the mad scramble for American visas from Indian techies was nowhere in sight in 2008. ( India has a quota of something like 65,000 visas to the U.S. They were going a-begging. Blame it on recession!). So far so good. But to think that the airlines will be back in business post recession is something I would not bet on. In short term yes. In long term a resounding no. Remember, if there is one place where Newton 's law of gravity is applicable besides physics it is in electronic hardware. Between 1977 and 1991 the prices of the now dead VCR (parent of Blue-Ray disc player) crashed to one-third of its original level in India . PC's price dropped from hundreds of thousands of rupees to tens of thousands. If this trend repeats then tele presence prices will also crash. Imagine the fate of airlines then. As it is not many are making money. Then it will surely be RIP!

India has two passions. Films and cricket. The two markets were distinctly different. So were the icons. The cricket gods were Sachin and Sehwag. The filmy gods were the Khans (Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and the other Khans who followed suit). That was, when cricket was fundamentally test cricket or at best 50 over cricket. Then came IPL and the two markets collapsed into one. IPL brought cricket down to 20 overs. Suddenly an IPL match was reduced to the length of a 3 hour movie. Cricket became film's competitor. On the eve of IPL matches movie halls ran empty. Desperate multiplex owners requisitioned the rights for screening IPL matches at movie halls to hang on to the audience. If IPL were to become the mainstay of cricket, as it is likely to be, films have to sequence their releases so as not clash with IPL matches. As far as the audience is concerned both are what in India are called 3 hour "tamasha" (entertainment). Cricket season might push films out of the market.

Look at the products that vanished from India in the last 20 years. When did you last see a black and white movie? When did you last use a fountain pen? When did you last type on a typewriter? The answer for all the above is "I don't remember!" For some time there was a mild substitute for the typewriter called electronic typewriter that had limited memory. Then came the computer and mowed them all. Today most technologically challenged guys like me use the computer as an upgraded typewriter. Typewriters per se are nowhere to be seen.

One last illustration. 20 years back what were Indians using to wake them up in the morning? The answer is "alarm clock." The alarm clock was a monster made of mechanical springs. It had to be physically keyed every day to keep it running. It made so much noise by way of alarm, that it woke you up and the rest of the colony. Then came quartz clocks which were sleeker. They were much more gentle though still quaintly called "alarms." What do we use today for waking up in the morning? Cell phone! An entire industry of clocks disappeared without warning thanks to cell phones. Big watch companies like Titan were the losers. You never know in which bush your competitor is hiding!

On a lighter vein, who are the competitors for authors? Joke spewing machines? (Steve Wozniak, the co-founder of Apple, himself a Pole, tagged a Polish joke telling machine to a telephone much to the mirth of Silicon Valley ). Or will the competition be story telling robots? Future is scary! The boss of an IT company once said something interesting about the animal called competition. He said "Have breakfast …or…. be breakfast"! That sums it up rather neatly.

The fundamentals of the company look ok but what hit me was that the daily traded volumes of the company were the same irrespective of the price moves.

The stock as such is unknown in the market and the delivery volumes are only 5-20 %. Thats surprising that majority of the trades in the day are intra-day.

People would attribute this to black ka white and circular trading :)

Dollar Index - One of the reasons for Equity/Commodity volatility

Dollar Index :

The last update on Dollar was a few months back. Well i did expect a move to 78 levels but this sharp move to 81 has created lots of volatility in equity/commodity markets all around.

Technically huge resistance at 80-81.5 band. Ideally there should be a pullback to 78 levels in near term.

Worse case scenario would be a move above 82 on the dollar that could spook any pullback in equities/commodities. But the downtrend is still strong so one cant expect further upmoves. Rest markets are supreme.

Sensex ---- When in Doubt Stay Out !!

Sensex Technical View :

The moves in the last few sessions and the volatility is giving no sense of direction. Although the worse case levels of 15500 zone is still holding up but any recovery is not sustaining.

Upside resistance at 16100/16600 remains to be strong. Lot many indicators are pointing to positive divergences but no confirmations yet ( Will post chart next week ) . So ideally and technically the markets should attempt a move to 16600-17000 levels but it is still elusive.

So as of now continue to wait and watch. Hold stocks which you are convinced of in medium term. Short term trades need to be very quick and small so its better to reduce volumes.

Some Thoughts :

The Sensex drop from 17700 to 15650 is a good 2k points but in % ge terms would be 10-12 % and that would have definitely hit portfolio of many people. It would be ok to see a 15-20% drop in the portfolio from higher levels.

But the drop could have been higher for people who did not make money in the last 3-4 months of rally in midcaps. Also few weeks back had consistently been mentioning to book partial profits and take some money out of the market. If you had done so then its time to get the money back at 15700-15000 levels and again look for pulling it back at 5-10% move in next few months.

The hit in such a drop is mainly to leverage. As i had mentioned some time back that only time we used leverage was at 15300 dip and 16600 and the view was to book profits and reduce leverage moment we touched 177000. So if you did take a hit in this drop make it a point on next bounce you reduce leverage and start avoiding it again !!

Stock Specific :

Buy Ajanta Pharma on declines to 150 stop of 140 tgt 180 in short term.

Tata Steel buy in dips from 525 to 500 stop of 490 target 570 in 1 mth.

Apollo tyres buy in dips to 54 stop 52 tgt 59-62.

Pump and Dump --- Channel Guide 10 ka 120 and 120 ka 20

Channel Guide :

A stock which i would doubt the fundamentals but the stock saw a super upmove in 2009.

Irrespective of market conditions the stock moved from 5 rs to 120 rs non stop. Huge volumes to the tune of 1-4 lakhs daily.

One fine day when the pumping stopped the stock fell like a rock non stop to 20 odd levels. The daily volumes were just around 2k-3k shares in which nobody would have got an exit !!!!

Yet again huge volumes were seen arnd 20 but the stock is back to 15 .... Will it again rise from sub 10 levels in next year with a fresh operation .... God knows !! i wont like to bet on this :)

Again here i would attribute this to good smart operation which might have screwed some investors.

Hindalco and Tata Steel look highly oversold and can give a bounce to 145-150 and 560-575 in short term.

Jayshree Chemicals and Sharon Bio are nice breakouts on short term charts. Buy with a 5% stop from cmp tgt 15-25% in 1 mth. Low liquid so do ur research.

Day traders can look to buy Grasim if opens closer to prev close.

DIC India seems a good bet for defensive investors. Buy on every decline till 190-200 and current levels with a target of 10-20% returns in 6 mths. Dont expect quick moves. But good place to lock profits.

Suzlon could also give a sharp upside in next 1-2 mths .............Market Buzz !!

Jaybharat Textiles and Real Estate - 18000 crore enterprise -- Hahah :)

I think i have discussed on this co before but with boring market conditions i ended up doing a bit more research

Jaybharat Textiles and Real Estate !! --- Have u heard the name before --- Obviously not ....

Then you wont be knowing that

1) At 18372 crores market cap the enterprise value of this company is more then combined market cap of HDIL and Indiabulls Real Estate.

2) The stock was less then Re 1 in 2003-2004. The stock has appreciated 400-500 times !!!. Has given huge bonuses !!

3) The daily delivery volumes are only 10% !! ... So there are too many traders who keep punting intra-day in this stock. Even on a 1 hour 30 min session the delivery volumes the delivery vols were less then 1 % :)

4) With a promoter holding of 67 % the Tayal family should be worth 10k crores !!!

Well there is still more to be discovered in this company it seems ............... I would simply suggest that the stock above would explain the terms mentioned in the POST BELOW

Circular Trading ,Manipulation Market-Making --- Stock Markets !!! Not so Clean :)

Lets first get into the text book definitions of the above Terms.

CIRCULAR TRADING

A fraudulent trading scheme where sell orders are entered by a broker who knows that offsetting buy orders, the same number of shares at the same time and at the same price, either have been or will be entered.These trades do not represent a real change in the beneficial ownership of the security.

MANIPULATION OF STOCKS

The act of artificially inflating or deflating the price of a security. In most cases, manipulation is illegal. It is much easier to manipulate the share price of smaller companies, such as penny stocks, because they are not as closely watched by analysts as the medium- and large-sized firms.

MARKET-MAKER

A broker-dealer firm that accepts the risk of holding a certain number of shares of a particular security in order to facilitate trading in that security. Each market maker competes for customer order flow by displaying buy and sell quotations for a guaranteed number of shares. Once an order is received, the market maker immediately sells from its own inventory or seeks an offsetting order. This process takes place in mere seconds.

The Nasdaq is the prime example of an operation of market makers. There are more than 500 member firms that act as Nasdaq market makers, keeping the financial markets running efficiently because they are willing to quote both bid and offer prices for an asset.

Although from all possible sources on the net there is no formal definition for OPERATORS :). But yes they are needed :)

As havent done much of analysis after a weekend in Delhi and some work today so just some market buzz ..... Please take and do your own research ... Do adequate risk management and keep stoplosses.

All the comments below are just the buzz in the market and may go terribly wrong also.

Alok Inds and other textile stocks may shine in the next 3 weeks before and after budget .... Some sops expected.

IFCI some announcement in the offing to pull up the stock in next 1 mth.

Aban Offshore is getting attractive in the zone of 1000-1100. The stock can zoom to 1400 on favorable news.

Technically Mundra port can give a smart move again on closing above 670..... All shipping stocks like GE , Pipavav might be in strong accumulation.

Ajanta Pharma may see another move above 150 taking it to 180.

Thinksoft might be soon dumped to the retailers .... A major avoid !!

Shorts would be trapped at 4500-4700 and index would zoom to 5050 by March 2nd week as per punters !

Shree Ashtavinayak after trapping some shorts on split with a huge auction !! will now be on continous lower freeze.

Concurrent India is being rigged towards 20-25 levels one side.

Sensex 15600 and Nifty 4650 seems to be holding up!!

Nifty 4650-4670 is the band of support which was almost tested today.

Sensex almost touched the 200 dema and saw a good recovery from the zone. Investors with a view of 1-2 months can continue to accumulate stocks with a closing stop on 15300-15400.

Upsides to 16600/17k is possible over the next 1-2 mths. Continue to keep booking partial profits on rise to reduce acquisition cost. Leverage can also be used arnd 15600.

Sensex 16k or 15500 ..... Would get decided by next week !!

Market seems to be undecided at current levels. Next 2 weeks would be interesting to watch as index could either go all the way to 4600 /15500 in worse case or continue to hold on. !

Check chart below for details.

Sensex Technical View :

Although index has been oversold but the pullback has not been able to cross 16600 !! . On the downside sustaining below 16k opens up to 15500. As mentioned last week index positions shud be reduced arnd 16600.

So as mentioned before best case is 16k holding up or index goes to 15500 also.

Technically many stocks are highly oversold but it can remain so for a long time. So this is a time to wait and watch. Avoid leveraged trading as index can give flip flop movements on both sides hitting stoploss on either side.

Investors can continue to be patient with their long term investments done in fundamentally sound stocks. In due course we would see good recovery in them.

The range of 16k-16.6k ( 4770-4950) remains !!

Sensex Technical View :

The index gave a smart bounce today but still not able to close above the 16600 and 4950 levels. Only on couple of close above 16.6k we can see a move to 17000 -17300 zone where one should again take a review of the stock portfolio.

On the downside expect support around 16200 and 4850-4870 range.

Stocks to watchout for :

Castrol and Torrent Pharma can give good moves. Buy with stop of 625 and 424. Possible tgts of 5-15% in near term.

Indsil Electro and Karuturi could be good bets for long term on dips of 10 % frm cmp.

Sensex and Nifty View : Sensex seems to be bottoming out around 16k mark. In the extreme near term ( this week ) would see resistance around 16600-16700 band. Nifty similar levels would come to 4985/5015.

Traders who have taken Nifty futures/Nifty bees as advised to be accumulated on declines shud reduce exposure at the above levels and keep trailing stops.

16.6k gone.... Best case: 16100-16200 Worst case: 15500

Today in the morning had just made a post on RSI reaching highly oversold levels. The markets were down arnd 100-200 points in the morning. As per RSI we have reached to levels which were last seen around 15300 and previous major lows.

Further Technical/practical Observations with charts :

The index has fallen more then 16600 levels which i expected to hold or at least give a bounce. Better part is we were early into the rally with leverage taken at 16600-17k last time which we kept booking at higher levels so such a healthy correction is digestable.

Currently for stock specific actions this is a time to watch and enter/average on turnaround signals. But i would continue to maintain that avoid leverage as volatility can cut traders.

1) Fibonacci Retracements :

In the last few short term uplegs none of them have fallen much below 61% which comes to 16250-16300.
Retracement for the last move from 15.3k the 38% level comes to 16100.
For the total upmove from 8k the 23% retracement comes to 15500.

So ideally one could see bounce from 16100 band or in case we see further downmoves even after that then also 15500 should hold up for the next few weeks.
Move below 15500 opens up a correction of a higher degree.

Trendlines/Averages :
The extreme short term trendline which was at 16600 and a few bottom supports in that zone got broken today and the next important one comes around 16100.

Recent bottom at 16200 is a level to watch for. 200 day moving average comes closer to 15500 which would be the worst case in near term.
Sustaining below 15500 could really open the gates to much lower levels.

Conclusion :

Traders can look towards a bounce back trade on Nifty with a stop of 4770 and buy niftybees in parts. If the level gets broken look to re-enter around 4640-4670 with a stop of 4600.

Momentum could be seen on crossing 4950 levels which can take it to 5050-5090 also.

Sensex levels are 16100 and 15500 respectively. Do adequate risk management.

RSI suggests oversold .... Time for a bounce ?

Although i am not a great fan of RSI or any other indicators but do look into it when required.

Ever since 2008 we have seen the index reversing sharply whenever it goes into the oversold zone.

As per todays trading the index RSI levels are closing in to the oversold zone. Only on deep corrections like Jan 08 and Oct 09 has the Sensex cracked much below the RSI level.

Ideally index can take support any time in the next few days. In a deeper correction scenario another 200-350 points and index could see a sharp recovery.

Bottomline : Time to cover shorts or keep strict trailing stoplosses. Small longs can be initiated at current levels with a view to add on further declines or on turnaround.

We would look into the charts again in the next couple of sessions.

Sunday Thoughts !!!

In the last weekend after a long time i made a little posting on this section. Given below are a few words of it for rest check it ---Sunday Thoughts last week.

Right now index has done nothing but money making has got a little easier for speculators also !! which may not be a great sign but such a period does last for a couple of months and a little washout cleans them again.

Well the signs of a little washout were there last week but nothing as ominous to take a full exit so the view was only to take some money out.

Currently i would consider the next 1-2 weeks would be a time where the weak hands who finally got in at 17.5k would soon chicken out. The sentiment was slowly getting better but the good part is we are seeing a healthy correction before the things went euphoric.

If you are a long term investor the next couple of years should ideally be excellent for returns provided one is doing a bit of cashing in and cashing out partially.

Suddenly a 5-8% correction on the index has got lot many people asking me whether one should exit ALL ??... Are we in a place like last January ? or Oct ?? .... I would call this the hangover after a clean bull party....

As of now the leverage position and sentiments are nowhere closer to euphoria but is more closer to caution so one cannot expect a Huge correction.

The bottom line is next couple of weeks may create confusions with index going all over the place but one should continue to remain invested and look to add positions but not leverage. Only when index goes below 15500/16200 on weekly or monthly basis would i re-look into the long term trend and decisions....

Dow Jones 10300-10350 and 10200 on closing basis will decide...

Its been a long time since we saw DOW cracking 200 + points and Nooresh making a post on the same. Also Sensex did not look at Dow for direction which almost made us forget DOW :)

The 200 pointer definitely makes a bad dent on the Dow chart but at the same time the index is now closing in on strong support zones.

10300-10350 is a short term trendline support. Also 10200-10150 zone needs to be closely watched to signal a change of trend. As of now we are coming to the zone but the next few sessions would give more clear signals.

Ideally one could expect a nice little bounce from the zones. So fingers crossed and watching.( Check charts posted below )

Sensex 16900-17250 ....Till 16600/16800 holds ;;;AAL IS WELL :::

We have become so used to the strong upmoves in the last 3 months that downmoves of 2-5% on the index suddenly look like big crashes.

But thats part of a trending move. Only on breakdown of certain levels and parameters confirms a trend change. Such a scenario is still not clear so one needs to now just wait and watch with positions made on lower levels and keep a trailing stoploss.

Check the chart below and detailed view :

Sensex Technical View :

-- > In the last few corrections or dips index has not dipped more then 61% of the last upmove. For the current upmove from 16600 to 17790 that level roughly comes to around 17000 odd.

-- > The momentum trendline has been again broken at 17400. But the downmoves after that have not been able to penetrate the recent lows. For now the recent low is 16600.

-- > The strong trending trendline shown in read colour is around 16900 for the next 1-2 weeks.

-- > The trend continues to remain strong till 16900 is not broken for 2-3 days.

-- > Only a closing level below 16600 should be taken as a signal to exit short term positions. A breakdown below 16600 would make the markets into a sideways consolidation.

-- > Stock specific Midcaps have not seen much of a decline till now and all the stocks which are tracking are continuing with strength. With the amount of profits made in last few months readers/clients can digest the worst case scenario of 16600 being broken and exiting all position

BottomLine: Let the markets give confirmatory moves by breaking strong levels before deciding the next strategy. As of now fresh buying on index ( Nifty ) can be done around 16900-17200 with a stop of 16600/16800.

Small Cap Index up 12% --- Did u MAKE MONEY !!

Just around 1 mth back on December 10 2009 i had made this post about how MIDCAPS and SMALL CAPS are on a verge of a move and will soon catch up with the leading indices.

The post was --- MIDCAPS /SMALL CAPS rocking ... Is it just the start of IT

Sensex moved just above 17500 to 17790 which is 1-2 % but small cap and mid cap indices have moved 10-12% in the last 1 -1/2 months. Many small cap stocks gave returns of 30-70% !!!

Current View :

The topping out of the index could happen only when the small cap and Midcap Index shoots vertically like it happened in Jan 2008.

The index did nothing between Oct 2007 to Jan 2008 but small cap index leaped vertically.

But right now we might be quite away from it as the rise is gradual and we may have another 5-10% move up in small cap indices before we review the situation.

Value picking in Holding Companies !!!

This is an area of Fundamental analysis and finding stocks which have huge intrinsic value.

Holding companies generally quote around 30-50% of the valuation of their holdings. In many cases this stocks would also go to 10-20% where in they could get interesting. Also many of the holding companies do not have business and only income is through dividends/payouts.

As majority of the core holdings are into group companies there is hardly a chance of liquidation of assets or stake sales which may suddenly boost up the valuations. So these stocks should be mainly defensive picks and one can only expect 20-30% upmove in 1 year in line with market sentiments. As downsides are limited the stocks become interesting for safe players.

Earlier i had made my call on J K Agri genetics and Maharashtra Scooters. In the two Maha Scooters is up 40% from recommended price but J K Agri is up only 5-10% !!!

So things take time to give returns in this space.

Again listing a few stocks !!!

J K Agri genetics / Bengal and Assam Company Ltd / CHI Investments

Now lets get into the details of all !!

J K Agri Genetics

As per the data available on the exchanged J K Agri holds major stakes in all J K group companies.

This roughly constitutes to around 90 cr in J K tyres and 50 cr in JK Lakshmi Cements.

Overall the company has 180-190 crores or more of holding value. Apart from that such a holding would generate some amounts of dividends.

Company does work in the Seeds which is an interesting business.

Current Market cap of the company : 60-65 crores. So its quoting at 30% of holding value. But it also has a business which could have some more value.

Investors looking for 20% or more annual returns should buy at 180-150 zone.

Bengal and Assam Company Limited.

This is the main holding company of the J K group with majority stakes.

This is much more value as apart from the listed J K Group it also holds many other investments !!!!

If i were to take those calculations it would take me days to do that. Listing down few important points.

1) Current Holding Value in JK group companies - 350 crores.

2) Holdings in other group companies which hold JK group stocks - namely Fenner India which cannot be valued.

3) Other quoted investments in equities/MFs and some unquoted investments

4) Apart from that there are many subsidiary companies which may be in other business.

Current market cap : 145-150 crores

I would expect the valuation of holdings would be anywhere between 350-650 crores. Apart from that there could be certain value to subsidiary cos and more to dig into this company.

Investors can look to accumulate the stock between 175-150 with a view of 20-30% or more in medium to long term. Stock can surprise heavily on the upside too :)

CHI Investments

This is yet another holding company which is quoting at a discount. Will soon put up a detailed view.

This stock can also appreciate by 20-30% in the long run.

Also in good times these stocks can surprise on the upside. Last bull market saw JSW holdings, HB stockholdings and many such cos shoot up.

Sensex 18500 !! possible ! ...

Sensex Technical View :

Sensex recently gave a fresh breakout around 17350. So ideally index should find good support around the breakout point which comes to 17250-17320 now for the next few sessions.

On the downside we have not seen any moves retrace more then 61% of late so we may expect 17k zones to hold up.

The next cluster of support comes around 16800-17k which is fibonacci and trendline ( blue ) .

Over all we see a major channel being made which breaks only below 16600. Till that level holds on closing basis the market could also turn up to the higher end of the channel which is 18500 + .We maintain this view.

Its easier for us as we bought around 16600-17k ( leveraged before now zero leverage ) and particular stocks have gained a lot so even if markets do break 16.6k we would be able to digest the stoploss hit :) !! ..

Although the apprehensions and caution signals are being heard all around but for people who are disciplined and ready to cut on stoplosses should trail and ride the current till markets show otherwise !!!

Sensex 17320-17250 and 16800-17000 are strong !!

Sensex Technical view :

Sensex recently gave a fresh breakout around 17350. So ideally index should find good support around the breakout point which comes to 17250-17320 now for the next few sessions.

On the downside we have not seen any moves retrace more then 61% of late so we may expect 17k zones to hold up.

The next cluster of support comes around 16800-17k which is fibonacci and trendline ( blue ) .

All the stocks recommended in near term have given a return of 20-50% + in last 2 mths.

People may attribute it to the current sentiment but this was expected by us way before and we have been accumulating midcaps since then.

Some interesting picks for short term:

Tanla Solutions at 65 and Provogue at 63 can give 20% in the next few weeks.

Zee Enterprises above 275 could give a smart move.

Be Stock Specific but Buy Quality !!

Midcaps and Small counters have started buzzing but take care with what u buy and the reasons to do the same !!!

Buy Quality stocks and dont get swayed by the so called operator stocks etc etc !! And keep stoplosses if taking a short term trading call. Do adequate risk management.

GAIL buy on dips to 420 stop 414 or above 430 for a target price of 450/465 in short term.

Day Traders Buy ABB on dips to 785 stop 775 tgt 810-820. Kotak Bank around 845 stop 836 tgt 865.

Textile Stocks are seeing fresh momentum. Arvind Mills and Alok Inds could be bought on declines with a short term view for sharp traders.

BGR energy and Jyoti Structures are on verge of a quick 10-15 % move if crosses 535 and 182.

SMALL CAP COVERAGE !

PTL enterprises Ltd ( 509220 ) cmp 17.7

After Accentia Tech and Surya Pharma another little attempt on Fundamental picking

Its a company from the Apollo Tyres brand and is basically a Tyre Unit which is then marketed under Apollo Brand.

But the clincher is the 500 bed Artemis Hospital in Gurgaon. As per the last deal for Wockhardt Hospital for 1900 beds the deal was a valuation of 52 lakh per bed.

So if we have to do a calculation on similar basis then it would be 50 lakhs * 500 which is 250 crores.

The current market cap is around 120 crores. Also this includes one unit of Tyres which may have some land value as well which generates rental income as well as on relocation of the unit the company may get some land value.

Technically a low volume stock but if it becomes a takeover candidate or the company decides to expand in this segment there could be an appreciation of 30-50% or more over 1 yr.

Electrotherm India , Indsil Electro and Tanla look interesting with 1-2 mths view on a fundamental basis. People can do more research as currently no time to look deeper.

Ever since 16600 we have been consistently been giving buy recommendations and also advised leverage to clients maintaining the view for 17700/18500 levels... Also spotted the lows exactly in Sensex and Bank Nifty /Nifty !!!

We have touched 17700 and re-iterate that we can go till 18500-18900 in this month. The strategy is simple !!

We bought in dips to 16600 then went leveraged till 17.1k and are now slowly reducing leverage by booking profits and trailing for 18500 !! .... On stock specific terms it means using a move of 20-50% in leverage means optimized returns !!

Apollo Hospitals - Long term pick tgt 800-900 and 1100-1200

Apollo Hospital :

A huge cup and Handle breakout.

Fundamentally the stock was recommended by every analyst in the last 3-4 yrs but the stock did not cross 600-640 levels since 2005-2009.

The range was between 350 to 600 irrespective of market conditions.

The current formation is for almost 10 years which indicates a major breakout.

Buy on current levels of 660-690 and add on declines till 600 with a target price of 900/1200 in next 6 mths to 1 yr.

So a techno funda pick !!

Sensex Technical View :

The bullish trend continues but it needs to be seen when does the Sensex cross 17500 or how it reacts in this range.

Simple strategy is to focus on broader markets and keep a watch on 17k levels on Sensex. The midcap small caps continue to flourish.

Expiry day could see some wild moves and a speculation says it shud close above 5200 to hit the call writers... Lets c how it goes , as expiry is not a technical phenemenon i dont consider it much :)

Some days back we had an exhibition in Mumbai. People those who attended and gave in their e-mail ids got a free investment pick and strategy.

The stock was Tinplate at 66-68. Stock has now moved to its target of 80/90. Client call was also initiated the same day with medium term view.

Cool returns of 20-25% in less then 1 month. !!

Of late the defensive stocks like Balkrishna Inds, Saraswati Ind Syndicate and KCP Ltd have started moving up. Investors can continue to hold on for long term.

Other favorites like Rishi Laser, Clutch Auto, Prakash Inds continue to zoom... Core is lagging behind

Of the two fundamental picks by me Accentia Technologies is moving to its price target of 200 !!It was recommended at 120 odd levels. Technical bias so quicker move !!! .... A move of 70% in less than 2 mths .... Hope people enjoyed

Surya Pharma also recommended at 135 odd levels is now at 165. Continue to maintain the long term view of 200+ or a multibagger.

Sensex Inverted Head and Shoulders - Tgt 18.6k and 23k ! ... Alternative View !

Technically this could be the super bullish alternative:) ... I would like this as am an inherent BULL :) .... Anyways continue to read for short term updates daily

SENSEX INVERTED HEAD AND SHOULDERS PATTERN :

The chart is explanatory enough.

The very first time we looked into this pattern was http://nooreshtech.blogspot.com/2009/07/what-do-you-wanna-see-see-what-market.html

Although until now not giving importance to the pattern has given good results as the other observations gave exact direction.

Theoretical Observations and Inferences :

1) Shoulder size is roughly 2.5k-3k points. This gives a minimum target price of 18k-18.6k which is most probably achievable over the next 4-8 weeks. ( I am betting on this :P )

2) Head size is very huge at 7.5k odd which gives a target of 23k. This is possible over the next 6-9 months or a little more. ( Wishful Thinkin :P )

3) The Pattern gets negated if the index closes below 15k levels for more than 8-10 sessions.

4) Volume Analysis still doesnot point heavily towards strength in the pattern. So a confirmation on volumes needs to be seen over the next 1-2 months to increase the probability of highest target.

5) Crossing over 17500 with volumes or a sustained closing above 18900 would be confirmatory signals for 23k target.

Above are technical observations. But we always go with the trend and also look into many factors and confirmatory signals alongwith practical market analysis to take a final call. For now the trend remains bullish and a move to 18-18.6k over the next 4-8 weeks remains open till it doesnt close below 15500.

Ever since November i have consistently been mentioning that its time to research Midcaps /Small caps as thats where the next big moves are going to be.

By Gods grace many stocks like Mahindra Ugine,Rishi Laser, Prakash Inds, Accentia Tech ,Surya Pharma and the list goes on have been advised on the blog or to personal clients which have given 25-50% returns.

WHAT NEXT !!!!! Read Ahead :)

Lot many people might feel this is the signs of the end of the Major Rally we had from 8k to 17k as many small caps have started roaring. Technically we still have not seen any euphoric move in the small cap index so we are quite far from being scared.

Mid cap and Small cap Index have scope of another 5-15% move up in next 1-3 months. The broader market will continue to outperform but that does not mean we lose discipline and buy JUNK !!! Continue to stick towards quality. ( we have quite a lot of good research posted here )

Bottom Line : Continue to focus on Quality Midcaps/Small caps !!!

Although we are on the midcap/small cap train since November. Its still not late to jump in.

We got the lows right !!! yet again

Ever since 15300 the preferred scenario has been 17.7k-18.5k over the next 1-2 months. We have now revised our stoploss to 16300 for the long positions.

Ideally possible stoploss 16600 on closing basis still remains for index or index stocks traders.

Technically the case becomes stronger as yet again a trap was created by breaking the momentum line by a small margin !!

Sensex jumps 500 points !!!!

This thing might have come as a shock to many traders !! Some on the short side or on sidelines might have been pissed....

We got it RIGHT AGAIN read the posts below to see how many times i have mentioned 16600 !!!

So we remained bullish had a buy call on Nifty as well as Bank Nifty getting only 30 and 100 points but majorly the focus is stock specific which is giving good returns today.

Technical Views : Reliance Inds, SBI / Deccan Chronicle, Lok Housing

Sensex Technical View :

Sensex seems to be taking support around the range of 16500-16600. The view remains as before the trend remains very positive till 16200 holds up on weekly closing basis.

If Index holds up above these levels for the next 2 weeks a move to 17.5k again cannot be ruled out.

But its time to be stock specific till we dont see a clear picture in coming days.

Stock Specific Technical View :

After quite some time a technical view on large cap stocks - The leaders SBI and Reliance which i expect could lead any upmove or downmove from here.

The charts would clear out the view.

SBI :

Multiple bottoms in the zone of 2060-2120.

Trendline support comes closer to 2095 zone. Holding these levels could give a smart bounce.

Only a break below 2060 would weaken the current trend. :

RELIANCE INDS :

Trendline support in the zone of 990-980. Holding on to this would signify strength.

Only a move below 960 on closing basis would lead to weakness.

LOK Housing :

Another high risk high return stock for next 2-4 mths. Earlier discussed many times. For the record advised to clients at 39/32 with long term view but small exposure.

Seems a fresh breakout could happen over 46 to take it higher.

Deccan Chronicle :

Good for short term on breakout... Traders keep a watch.

In the last few interactions in various seminars/exhibitions and meetings with people have been recommending few stocks which may not have been discussed on the blog in similar manner.

Core Projects :

Already recommended at 173-175 previously and maintain the short term technical call on the stock. The stock can outperform also in the months to come.
RISHI LASER :

With a market-cap of 35 crores and presence in the industry with various installations all over India seems and interesting turnaround story.

Already recommended to clients at 40 with a detailed report.

PRAKASH INDS :

PRAKASH Industries, think steel, power, mining, ferro alloys, pvc pipes & wind energy!! Its financials are good enough and are still set to grow exponentially in next few years to come. Prakash industries is a next mini Jindal Steel & Power in the making.

Have been initiating short term trades ever since 110/135/154. Last had sent a sms to all Blog readers who registered at 154. Also Clutch Auto was messaged with booking on prakash Inds at 170-180.

Technically one can expect a tgt of 195/220 in next 1-3 months.

CLUTCH AUTO :

A company in the business for 3-4 decades with major sales towards commercial vehicles in the domestic segment.

At a market cap of 70 crores and a book value of 86 it gives a good amount of safety over the long term.

Technical views posted on the chart. Buy on current levels and declines till 40. A sustained closing above 48 could take the stock to higher targets in quick time.

Sensex - 16600-16500 or 16200-16300 Levels - But Stock Specific Action !!

SENSEX TECHNICAL VIEW :

Things to note :

--- > Multiple Tops were seen around 17300-17350. It also seems a like a rounding top but its too small a period to confirm it.

--- > In the near term we had lots of bottoms around 16500-16600 zone in the last few months.

--- > The new momentum trendline from March Bottoms has been broken. One important thing to note is we have seen minor breakdowns ever since March to trap shorts. So we will not make any quick conclusions here !!!!

--- > The shorter term trendline comes to around 16300 levels.

--- > The recent bottom around Dubai fiasco was at 16200. So simply put an extreme short term trend change happens only on sustained closing below 16200.

-- > Volumes have been very low as well as price magnitude also is small. This indicates lots of indecision on the index.

-- > 50%/61% retracement of last moves come at 16300/16150 roughly.

-- > BSE Midcap and BSE Small cap Index have not broken the lows of the last few days. This indicates the selling is more towards the index and broader market is making their own moves.

-- > Many other sectoral indices have not given a crack.

CONCLUSIONS :

-- > There remains a disconnect in the moves on the index and broader market. So one should not consider the index as a criteria for stock selection.

--- > In the near term strong supports at 16600-16500 and 16200-16300 range.

-- > Short term outlook becomes weak only sustaining below 16200.

-- > Major trend decider is 14700 for the medium to long term outlook

BSE/NSE and SEBI ---- 3 idiots !!! - No sense in changing timings

BSE/NSE are exchanges which are ought to make money and every new board is just looking towards increasing the volumes then efficiency !!!

The flow of news :

- > SEBI allows exchanges to extend timings !! - ( Was the proposal taken forward by brokers or exchanges ?? ... obviously exchanges )

- > BSE changes timings by 10 mins ( God Damn it 10 mins can change BSE fortunes no it cannot,many products could not)

- > NSE has no other option and rather then playing the bidding war in time it takes it to 9 a.m ( SEBI permitted 9 am start )

What are the reasons :

-- > SGX Nifty

-- > Global Indices

-- > Volumes

None of the above can be justified.

- > SGX Nifty traded 10k contracts today in December series and 2 contracts in January. Whereas Nifty futures traded 5 lakh + contracts. and 29k in January. This shows in value basis NSE trades on an average 6-12 times what SGX does. ( rough calculations )

- > Above all SGX starts at 8 am so no matter what, there is going to be no induction of volumes from SGX to NSE. BSE has no futures volumes as such. Also majority of entities participating SGX might be bcoz they dont have a direct way to NSE.

-- > In any case Indian exchanges cannot start before Asian Indices ( 8 am ) and neither stay to see the end of Europe or start of USA ( 7 pm or later ). There is no case to tweak times or else you go to the government and get Indian Standard Time ( IST ) changed.

-- > What could be the impact of 1 hour on the volumes??? Statistically nothing major but the amount of cost which goes in keeping it on for one hour more is too high to compare the increase in volumes.

-- > The cumulative cost of 1 hour with X no of offices will definitely be a major dent to institutions. ( Dunno how early would depositories open up in this case ?? )

World over markets only work for 4-7 hours on an average. U S does for 6 1/2 , Europe 8, Asia 4-6 hours. Index futures may remain open for 24 hours but thats pure electronic and no physical transaction. So increase timings for Index futures to 24 hours !

China and Hong Kong even have a lunch break in between !!.

So whats the sense in increasing timings by 1 hour or even 2 hours - I would say NONE apart from some EGO issue in the exchanges.

There are many questions on how are they gonna do it.

-- > How early would the depositories have to open up ??.

-- > How would banks cope up with Margin settlements.

-- > How would small brokers cope up.

The list goes on.

Solution :

This is not a solution which anyone would back but as per a simple analysis.

Majority of the intra day volumes happens in 1st hour and last 30-45 mins of trade because its a fresh and end session. So volumes increase because its START and END.

Ideally volumes would increase if we have a break in between as this would create 2 STARTS and 2 ENDS.

So increase the time by 1 hour and keep a 1 hour lunch break.Amount of system time would remain same but volumes would definitely increase....

Ideally nothing needs to be changed. BSE/NSE should also work in participants interest ( institutions,retailers) then in their interests of volume increase. Have we seen any announcements on how to get back the even 5 % of the 58k crore worth of de-listed comapanies or SYSTEM PULL UPS On RIGGING .... None

As a participant in the markets this is my view which might be shared by all .... So read and pass around for more viewpoints on this.

No stock or index updates as nothing meaning ful is happening in the last 2-3 sessions. Lets wait for markets to decide the next move and we would react!! then predict.

WTF !!! .....Over Time with NO WORK !

Well thats a simple reaction for someone who is involved with markets full time...

Its like over-time of 1 hour and you bloody dont get paid for it :) ....

So rather then speaking lot more on such a decision which is more on the selfish interest of NSE,BSE who are more concerned of the turnover then on regulations or more important things. In the end they are also a corporate doing business and not a government body so we cant expect them to be any better :)

I think this 1 hour would eat into my blogging time :( !!!

Sensex Technical View :

Sensex continues to remain in the range of 16700-17400 which is actually a no trade range or with low volumes. Such floppy moves may only take in stoplosses unless some one is scavenging for small trades.

Continue to wait and watch till markets decide their next move.

Chambal still hold.

Few Observations :

- > Balkrishna Inds and KCP Ltd recommended as slow long term defensive stocks are seeing increasing volumes which suggests investor interest. Buy and hold for 6 mths.

-- > Cement and Fertilizer stocks are seeing higher then normal volumes. Keep watch on Grasim , Mangalam cement and Chambal Nagarjuna in fert.

Just a lil busy so only few day trading updates !

BUY ABB above 765 stop 759 tgt 779.

Buy Rolta abobe 188 stop 185 tgt 200.

Buy TCS at 710-715 stop 707 tgt 730.
